Went up to Cameo today and nabbed a few kits from a recent collection he acquired. I got the Trumpeter KV2 "Big Turret", Hasegawa 1/48 weapon set D and F-18C.
Anyone who builds models as a "serious" hobby knows what the "STASH" is.
No, it does not mean that all seriuos model builders have a Jack Layton-esc Stash. This stash is the collection of unbuilt kits. When we start in this hobby one usually buys a kit, builds it and then moves on to the next kit. That lasts for a while, and then something happens. We start to notice all the eye catching kits on the hobby store shelf (you can tell my vintage because I refer to hobby store, not online stores web page). And then you start talking to people and you realize that there were all these cool kits that came out before you were involved in the hobby and are hard to find. You start to worry "what if this awsome new DML Panzer IV F-2 goes the way of the classic Monogram B-52 that has not been released in 25 years".
So you buy new kits that come out. When the hobby shop (or Ebay) has an older out of production kit, you snatch it up. Slowly but surely your "STASH" starts to grow. You have 4 or 5 kits waiting on the shelf. The 10, then 20. You start building bigger kits, more detailed kits. You start taking longer to complete each kit. Your "STASH" grows even larger. You start purchasing detail sets "just in case" and figure sets "cause it may be useful one day". Your STASH Grows.
Then one day you have to move, and you go to Budget and purchase 5 large boxes figuring that should hold you hobby "STASH". You get home and start loading up those boxes, counting your "STASH" and you realize a few things.
1) You need more boxes
2) You need a bigger house than the one you just bought
3) Your wife does not need to know any of this.
Nothing to see here folks... move along.... oooh, is that the new Hobby Boss Humber Scout car on the self?.....
I did a minor update of the site layout. Added a camo background, a random model picture on the right between the Projects and BLOG listing on the home page.
On the Blog Entries page I added thumbnails of pictures attached to the blog as well as a count of the comments.
I also added a new category for my Warhammer models. Lastly added two tags for the Home page to indicate a Model post and a Blog Post.
These pictures where snapped back in 04 of this Dio when it was on a shelf. They are not lit properly so am just posting them in the blog. I found them along with some of the pictures I posted last night.
Digging around some old pictures from 2004 I found some shots I took of the hobby room in my old house. It was about twice the size of the one I am building now but was used as both my work room and the place for me to display my models. The new hobby room will just be to build hobby rooms. Anyways, here there are.
If you use a news read that accepts rss then you can click on "GET RSS FEED HERE" on the home page. It contains the text only, you can access any attached photo's by clicking on each item.
Last night I added a feature so you can comment on a blog entry. At the bottom of the screen is an area for you to enter your name, a subject line and a comment. Hope you enjoy.
I'd like to talk about what I built today. I'd like to, but I can't. I can't because I have no hobby room/workbench. I haven't had any for over a year.
See, we bought a new place in Jan of '07. It's in a new development that had yet to be built. We were told the house would be complete in Aug '07. We listed our place and sold fairly quickly. While selling the Estate Agent suggested that I pack up all my models and turn my hobby room at the time into another bedroom as it would show better. I did just that.
Fast forward to today, and after a year of delays we are finally in the house. It's a two store plus basement. The basement is unfinished. I am now in the process of finishing the basement. I have almost finished framing the rooms in. Hopefully the basement will be finished in another 4 or 6 weeks.
All the pictures of models you see here where built over the past 20 odd years. I've got probably a half dozen models left to photograph and one fairly large Dio. I also have three Warhammer 40k armies in various stages of completion that will be posted when I get them unpacked.
I will update here as I finish the basement and complete my hobby room.
I have added a new capability to the blog feature. There is now a page to view all blog entries. It can be reached via the "BLOG Entries" on the "Navigation" panel. I also changed the bottom right panel to list recent blog entry subject lines. You can view that blog entry directly from that panel.
The individual blog view panel can display any attached pictures. The BLOG Entries page will only show text and will indicate that there are images available. You can access the individual blog entry viewer from the "BLOG Entries" page by clicking on the subject line.
