I built it SOB with only some additional stowage from the bits box. I added a few figures for fun.

It has a full interior and that was a pain to get it to all fit well and look right. The tracks are a tad tight, but thats what you get with rubber band tracks.

See the entry in the Projects section for build details.

SCI-FI - Klingon D-7

This is Polar Lights D-7 Battle Cruiser. I built it strait out of the box with only a modification to the stand. Ive found that with most sci-fi kits the stands they provide are pretty hinky and so I beef them up.
Here is the back story:

WWIII started when rogue factions of the USSR refused to admit the end of the empire in 1991... and launched a Coup and attack on NATO. Conflicts between China and Taiwan, India and Pakistan, Iran and Iraq... all flared up...

Alliances quickly formed... USSR, Pakistan, Iran, North Korea and China signed treaties, Australia, Japan, India and Iraq, Taiwan, South Korea all came under NATO control. After three years of brutal back and forth NATO started to make gains. Desperate to stave of defeat the Sino-Soviet side used tactical nuclear strikes. NATO front-line casualties were massive. But the Sino-Soviets miscalculated.

NATO, realizing that a a limited nuclear strike would only slowly escalate the nuclear strikes felt the only hope was a quick and decisive total destruction of the Sino-Soviet ability to make war. Fortunately, throughout the Regan years and "star wars" program NATO was prepared for this type of doomsday scenario. Satellite mapping had pinpointed 95% of all Sino-Soviet production facilities. As well, the war at sea had not gone well for the Sino-Soviet side. Crash builds had allowed the US to replace it's Surface and Sub losses as well as grow its fleet. It had 14 Nimitz class carriers. Using these assets as well as upgraded B52, B1 fleets a massive strike was launched. Special bunker buster nukes were used on known ICBM sites. Space based systems were able to temporarily disable the air defense systems allowing for almost total success.

98% of targets were successfully neutralized, including C3, Industrial, Reserve Forces, Naval Bases and infrastructure. Low yield weapons and pin-point targeting allowed for relatively low (by nuclear standards) civilian casualties.

What ICBM's survived the strike were launched. 95% were taken out buy space and land based systems. This still resulted in strikes in several NATO cities but no significant impact on NATO war making capabilities.
BLOG - Change of pace

I've started working again on the Black Hog Down dio. I've put the GATO aside for a while and will start another quicky project to fill the time between paint drying on the Dio.

Once I get the two done I'll tackle the Gato again. It's going to be ton of air brushing, drybrushing, filters and washes. And it's a very large canvas.

SCI-FI - Cyclone VR-52F/T Battler

This is a kit from one of my favorite Anime from the 80's, ROBOTECH. Robotech was an amalgamation of three Anime into one long story. The Cyclone is from the last chapter, the original source being Genesis Climber MOSPEDA.

It was a nice kit thou the poses available are pretty boxy. I airbrushed the kit for the most part, brush painting most of the black. The tires are soft vinyl.
It has reflectors, two lights, diffusers and four backdrops (white, grey, green, blue). It will be difficult to resist re-doing all my older photos.

It will be best for small dios and single models. I'll need to use natural outdoor light for larger models and Dios.

My wife gave me a Star Wars year by year book and a superman crest shirt.

My kids gave me two models.

BLOG - Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

I won't be doing any building till the new year most likely with family activities ramping up this week. I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you all have a great time and that Santa trays you all well!

BLOG - Possible next build.

With the Gato build into the painting/weathering stage I'm thinking of building the Stuka. Either this one or the Panther I posted previously. I have built a British, American and Japanese aircraft but not a German one yet.

I could also work on my "Black Hog Down" dio that's been sitting idle for a year...

or maybe one of my Starblazer kits....

To many choices....

Gato Class Submarine - Painting

Been madly airbrushing the past few days.

I've done all the major painting now, just some touch ups to do where I had some bleed through the masks.

The Hull
I first painted the front section Light Gray. Once this was dry I masked it off and painted the middle of the deck side Light Ghost Grey (or there abouts). While I let that dry for a day I painted the front and back of the Hull black.

I'm going to need to touch up a few areas that don't have good coverage and a few bleeds on the Bow.

Tower
I first painted the deck's black then masked and did the horizontal surfaces Light Grey. I thouched up any bleed through/over spray by hand brush.

Mast
I painted it Black, then masked and did the top of the scopes Medium Grey. I hand painted the steel.
